Would you like to better understand your responsibilities in relation to playground inspections — or know how to undertake the regular Routine Inspection?
This is a practical, informative and confidence‑building course — designed to help you meet your responsibilities and manage playgrounds safely and effectively.
Course Content – Theory & Practical Sessions
This 1‑day course provides both theory and practical sessions covering:
- An overview of the importance of play for children
- The benefits of designed‑in risk in children’s play

- Good Risk vs Bad Risk
- Why inspections are essential within your playground management systems
- What inspections are required and when
- Who should undertake inspections (competence)
- A clear inspection methodology for:

- Playground equipment
- Skateparks
- A practical demonstration of an inspection
- How to record inspections and manage any issues identified
- What happens next?

- Ensuring appropriate action is taken when necessary
- The opportunity for individuals to ask questions about their own specific issues or queries relating to their playgrounds.
- Interactive tutor-led session
- Opportunities for Q\&A and discussion
RPII Practical Examination (Optional)
Candidates also have the option to take the RPII Practical Examination to prove their competence.
- Takes place after the main training session
- Additional time should be allowed to accommodate the examination at the end of the course (20-30 minutes in groups of 2-3)
- Successful completion provides certification for the next three years

The course is designed for new staff who may have just commenced maintaining these areas, as well as experienced staff whose three‑year certification may be expiring this year.
